We started in bush planes across outback Australia. The kind of flying where conditions change fast and your records have to be right every time.
Eventually we made it to airliners, flying 747s for Qantas and 737s for Virgin.
In aviation, evidence is how decisions are made. Full stop. There is no 'approximately' or 'we think it's probably fine.' Every system, every check, every anomaly is documented and traceable.
That standard is not optional. It is the job.
Drones
Better evidence. Broken workflow.
In 2013 we started one of Australia's first drone services companies, well before you could buy a drone at a store. We went straight to asset inspections: bridges, buildings, ports, industrial structures.
High resolution, full coverage. Things traditional inspection access couldn't reach.
But the photos got reviewed, the report still got written the old way, and the imagery quietly ended up on hard drives and SharePoint folders. Disconnected from every decision that came next.
Engineers and owners had better raw data than they'd ever had. The workflow hadn't changed. The record hadn't changed. The decisions were still being made the same way.

So we built it.
We knew there was a better way to connect evidence to decisions across the whole lifecycle. When we looked for a system that did that, nothing existed.
In 2019 we founded Trendspek, working directly with the engineers and asset owners who were running these workflows every day.
We built it with them, not for them. The workflows we designed came from the real problems, not from what looked good in a product demo.

Derek started in bush planes across outback Australia before moving to commercial aviation, flying 747s for Qantas.
In 2013 he co-founded Hoverscape, one of Australia's first drone services companies. That's where the problem Trendspek solves became obvious.
He has been working toward the SLMS category ever since.
At Trendspek he leads the vision and category direction, keeping the focus on one thing: making inspection evidence count when capital decisions get made.

What industries do you work with?

How long does it take to get started?
